Wexford County Council (WCC) has all but confirmed that extensive works to upgrade Esmonde Street in the middle of Gorey are unlikely to commence before the end of the year. Amid concerns from business owners that the works, which include the upgrading of footpaths, cycle lanes and road surfaces, would negatively impact their Christmas trade the council had said it would consider waiting until January to begin a project expected to take 9-12 months to complete.
