There were heart-breaking scenes during the funeral of 8-year old Matthew Breen held in St. Joseph’s Church, Templerainey, Arklow, Co Wicklow, as his school pals all wore t-shirts bearing the slogan ‘Matthew our Hero’.

Wicklow singer Niamh Beatrix, who first emerged as a huge talent after she had reached the semi-finals of Ireland’s Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2023 when she sang a stunning rendition of Imagine Dragons’ Radioactive – as Gaeilge – has been chosen to sing the South African national anthem when Ireland take on the Springboks at the Aviva Stadium, on Saturday.
